What did we learn?
From gaming to sustainable IT and from cybersecurity to digital accessibility, AI, and collaborations within and outside the sector. We now know how technology and experience reinforce each other and how important that experience and interaction are for and with the audience! You can already read more about some topics on den.nl, for example:
- Our article on cybersecurity in the cultural sector.
- The art & opportunities of digital inclusion.
- Sustain your IT in 10 steps.
"I found the speakers interesting, dedicated, and clearly experts in their field."
How do you involve your entire organization in the process of digital transformation? What are the risks of and in the digital world? And how can you use new techniques like AI and VR to create something beautiful and reach your audience, now and in the future? All these questions were answered. We noted the following:
AI helps you experiment
Alongside other speakers, Nick Sherrard emphasized in his presentation on new business models how digital technologies make it easier to experiment. With user-friendly AI tools, you can easily turn your idea into a pitch-worthy concept. This can be used to involve the audience in the design process or to convince investors.
Digital makes accessible, but mind the rights
By investing in digital offerings, you can reach an entirely new audience. For instance, people who live farther away or have a disability that makes physical visits challenging. In short, go for it! But, as Lara Meeuwissen rightly pointed out: that does mean you need to properly arrange the rights. To share a physical production online, you need permission from the rights holders. More about this will be available soon at DEN.
Impact, personal & sector-wide
Janneke Defesche and Suze van Miltenburg spoke about Slumber, their tool to measure impact. And it provided valuable insights, namely: personal impact stays with cultural visitors the longest. The digital tool also provides starting points for conversation. Another impact is: develop small and share big. They are developing Slumber out of their own need but hope it can offer something for the entire sector. Because only then does it become valuable.

Online conference: Let's get digital
The DEN conference was online and also felt physical! Aspects of a live event, such as networking, also came to the forefront. We used the platform 'Let's get Digital (opens in new tab)' for this, and it was a success! Participants could follow live sessions, ask speakers questions, network with each other, and have roundtable discussions on certain topics.
"This was a lesson in what online presentation of a conference should look like. There's a revolution underway in the way we do creative work, and arts organizations are going to be right at the heart of it. The game is being raised."
Interesting data
Working with data offers many opportunities and advantages. It provides insights and allows you to make and justify choices. This enables you to better focus on your audience. We also collected some interesting data that we’d like to share with you. For example, we saved quite a bit of CO2 by offering the conference online. And a fun fact: more than 60 participants visited the virtual toilet!
