"In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, we want to help the sector respond to this as effectively as possible. Society is changing, as are the wishes and expectations of current and future visitors," says Maaike Verberk, director of DEN. "The additional resources enable us to take that step, ensuring the sector does not lose relevance and can even grow. We want to make cultural institutions aware of the digital (im)possibilities and encourage and support them in making use of them."

This is what we do to strengthen the sector

We will use the released resources, among other things, to:

  • Develop additional methodologies and tools to drive the necessary changes at all levels within cultural organizations.
  • Support and connect a growing community of cultural professionals around digital innovation for expertise development and learning networks.
  • Explore opportunities and possibilities of a digital space where culture, creators, and audiences meet, connect, and engage. In doing so, we specifically focus on the possibilities of using digital applications to increase accessibility to culture and make it more inclusive.

Bringing the sector together

We are well aware that the challenges of digital transformation are large and complex; it is therefore more important than ever to bring the sector together. Only by pooling knowledge, expertise, and networks can we develop the necessary scale and momentum. As a knowledge institute, we will do everything in our power from our independent position and expertise to make this a reality. In doing so, we also explicitly look outside the sector and internationally. We collaborate with and learn from these areas.

It is important that the released resources are structural. This allows us to support more institutions at both the strategic and operational levels in their digital transformation. DEN looks forward to enthusiastically working with everyone in the sector. Because only together can we drive the digital transformation forward. Together, we reach the audience of the future.
