How do I select a tech partner for my digital project?
Start by making a preliminary selection of agencies. Does a large or small agency suit you? Large agencies often have ready-made solutions but are usually less flexible than smaller ones. Moreover, you’ll face very different budgets.
Are you organizing a pitch?
Have you decided to let agencies pitch against each other? That can be a smart move because then you can choose and see what’s available. Be transparent about the fact that you are organizing a pitch. Be honest not only about the fact that there will be a pitch (and how many agencies are pitching) but also let them know how the pitch process will be structured. For example: whether there is a pitch fee and how much it is, when you expect a proposal (give pitch participants a realistic amount of time), whether and when you want to schedule pitch presentations, and how much time you’ll need to decide who you’ll work with.
Tip
The VIA (marketing chain network) has developed a pitch code for companies and organizations, which you can find here: https://vianederland.nl/kennisbank/via-pitchcode (opens in new tab)
How do you ensure a good preparation for a pitch?
Ask for previous work so you can see if the respective agencies might be a good fit for you. Keep in mind not to take the submitted material literally; often, it’s primarily a reference, and more is possible, but at least you can see if you’re on the same page and wavelength.

Transparency is key
Be open and clear about the strengths within your organization, but also about which areas need further development. Are you well-versed in tech, or do you still have a lot to learn? This can influence (the development of) the final product. The more information you can share, the better the alignment between your needs and what the agency can deliver (and what will work for you).
