A starting organization: Here's how to proceed

Your organization is at the beginning of the digital transformation. How do you ensure that everyone in the organization speaks the same language so you can make a well-prepared start with digital transformation? Where do you begin? Discover it on this page.

Your organization is starting

Your organization is in the first phase of digital transformation. Be curious, ensure the organization is willing to engage with digital transformation. Gain knowledge about digital transformation and innovation and get inspired by other organizations. This will not only give you insight into the level of ambition you aim for but also help develop a common language within your organization, making everyone part of the digital transformation. At the same time, you can truly make an initial start by initiating concrete actions. A digital strategy will help you with this. Below, you will find information to guide you further on the five components from the scan. Check the email you received with the results of the Digital Transformation Scan for the outcomes per component and start with the information of the component where you want to take the first steps.

Component 1: Strategy and budget

What is digital transformation, and how do you take the first step? Gain knowledge about digital transformation and technology through online research, attending relevant training, and participating in conferences or networking events. Look at priorities in budget allocation to make budget available for digital initiatives. Work on the vision to integrate the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation. Involve employees in this and create a plan on how to actively communicate the vision and strategy to the public and stakeholders, for example, through newsletters and social media channels.

Component 2: Culture and competencies

An innovative organization is not built alone. Map out which digital knowledge and competencies you think you will need. Attract talent in IT, digital marketing, and digital leadership to your organization. Alternatively, explore whether existing employees can utilize or develop these (hidden) talents.

Component 3: Audience and value

Creating value for a changing audience. How do you do that? Explore the audience of the future and ask yourself what digital projects you can initiate for this. Get inspired by existing examples and reports about the audience of the future. Incorporate the new knowledge of the future audience into your vision and strategy.

Component 4: Data and technology

Digital transformation has several basic requirements. Familiarize yourself with the relevant legislation you must comply with for new initiatives, such as copyright, privacy laws, and cybersecurity. Use data and insights in decision-making. Use data and the insights derived from it for discussions in your organization about digital transformation and in decision-making.

Component 5: Processes and structure

Examine your current organizational structure: is it flexible enough to execute your digital ambitions? Also, look at peer organizations: get inspired by practical examples and lessons learned in the areas of collaboration and digital initiatives or services (digital first).
